  • Operational excellence is considered a collective term for strategic management approaches that use optimization initiatives to align the company's business processes with customer needs, quality as well as efficiency. Excellence models combine both technical and social factors in the pursuit of sustainable improvement and are based not only on operational management and technical processes, but also pay special attention to people and their influence on the successful implementation of an optimization program. The aim of this master thesis is to discuss the crucial role of managers and their leadership styles, which, according to the evaluated academic literature, can be named as promising for a sustainable achievement of operational excellence in the environment of Industry 4.0 by promoting the desired organizational culture through the targeted application of leadership concepts. The question of the master thesis is answered by means of a theoretical-conceptual approach. The investigations have brought to light the findings that, as the demands on companies have changed, the leadership concepts have also adapted to the requirements and thus the leadership philosophy has also moved from „Command and Control" to „Empowerment", „Agile Leadership" and „Transformational Leadership". The leadership concepts „Transformational Leadership", „Symbolic Leadership", „Empowerment" and „Agile Leadership" could be identified for a sustainable achievement of operational excellence in the Industry 4.0 environment. There is reason to believe that a combination of the leadership concepts presented would deliver the best results, insofar as the most suitable leadership concept is applied as appropriate to the situation.
