  • Ecosystems have served us humans as a habitat for hundreds of thousands of years, providing resources for our well-being and survival. But today we are facing serious environmental problems caused by humans, which pose a great threat to our planet. The cause of this is, among other things, the alienation of man from nature. More and more often, alienation from nature-based ecosystems already occurs during childhood, yet empathy for ecosystems as well as systemic ecology awareness is inevitable to save our planet. Therefore this thesis deals with the research question: How can ecological knowledge be prepared for children in such a way that a learning effect occurs and empathy for the semi-natural ecosystems is also promoted? To answer this question, theoretical findings, best practice analyses, and personas were used, and exploratory expert interviews were conducted. Based on the results, a catalog of requirements and a concept for an application were developed, which is intended to introduce families with children to semi-natural ecosystems in the form of different digital educational games with interactive tasks. As an application scenario, a prototype for the Fohramoos at Bödele was created and evaluated. The results of the evaluation showed motivation and fun as well as a learning effect for the children. In addition, the children’s relationship to the ecosystem was positively influenced. The digital mediation formats as well as Educational Games have been researched very little in the field of education for sustainable development. Therefore this work contributes to closing this research gap.
