  • In the post-digital age in which we currently live, a societal change is evident. Nowadays, the working world increasingly demands flexibility and dynamic processes. Furthermore, it is considered inevitable that digital technologies have become a crucial part in our everyday life. Nevertheless, as a counterpoint to digital networks, there exists a strong urge for real experiences. As a matter of fact, particularly, public arenas have throughout history been suitable places for such specific social encounters. Therefore, those people, who are responsible in cities and industrial parks, are dealing with the question of how they can upgrade certain areas and create an attractive surrounding for their users. As a result, the present paper deals with the users’ needs, referring to city’s inhabitants and its visitors, in relation to urban furniture concepts. The objective of this thesis is to gain a deeper insight into urban spaces and focusing on the interaction between people, place, and furniture by applying different methods. In addition, there will be a special focus on a photo-documentary study of existing furniture concepts. However, the overall aim of this paper is to show and provide possibilities for future urban furniture concepts, which might be useful and of great interest to area managers as well as to designers.
