- The transition to renewable energy systems and their optimal operation is crucial for reducing energy consumption and the associated saving of CO2 emissions. In private households, hysteresis control traditionally dominates in heat generation. However, newer buildings, equipped with heat pumps and photovoltaic systems, offer significant potential for efficiency improvement through adapted control strategies. Intelligent load control allows for substantial cost savings and an increase in the degree of autarky. Existing literary approaches provide methods for system modeling and identification. Moreover, they demonstrate the potential for optimization through the Model Predictive Control (MPC) approach. However, a specific evaluation based on real data of an energy system with an exhaust air heat pump is missing. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the load shifting potential of this system configuration. The system identification is based on measurement data, which simultaneously serve as a reference for comparing the traditional hysteresis operation with MPC control. The analysis reveals the load-shifting potential through the optimized operation, including a total cost savings of up to 42% and an increase in the degree of autarky by up to 10%. These potentials vary seasonally, but are present throughout the year.
