Femtosecond laser ablation on Si generates 2D ripple structures, known as laser induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) and pinholes. We fabricated membranes with 20 to 50 μm thickness perforated by an array of tapered pinholes up to 5 μm in diameter and 10 to 20 μm spacing. Within several micrometer the pinholes transform into hollow photonic waveguides with constant diameter from 1μm to 2μm. Such structures offer a 3D photonic coupling device for polymer Y-branch- and MMI-splitter. We measured a considerable change of electrical resistivity for 500 ppm H2 in air using Si/SiO2/TiO2 substrates with 2D LIPSS. We propose to investigate 3D waveguide arrays also for photonic-chemical sensors.
In this paper we report on the experimental test set-up for the temperature characterization of fiber array to photonics chip butt coupling at 1310 nm and 1550 nm wavelengths. The alignment and gluing of fiber arrays to photonics chip were done by automated active alignments system and they were fixed themselves by UV curable epoxy adhesive. Temperature changes of coupling insertion losses are measured and investigated for two different UV adhesives during three temperature cycles from -40 °C to 80 °C in climatic chamber. Spectral dependence of insertion losses was measured and compared before and after three temperature cycles for 1530 nm to 1570 nm spectral range at room temperature.
We present design, simulation and optimization of polymer based 16-channel, 100-GHz AWG designed for central wavelength of 1550 nm. The input design parameters were calculated applying AWG-Parameters tool. The simulations were performed applying a commercial photonic tool PHASAR from Optiwave. The achieved transmission characteristics were evaluated by AWG-Analyzer tool and show a satisfying agreement between designed and simulated AWG optical properties. Finally, the influence of the number of phased array (PA) waveguides on the AWG performance was studied. The results show that there is a certain minimum number of PA waveguides necessary to reach sufficient AWG performance.
This paper presents the design, simulation, and optimization of a 1×128 multimode interference (MMI) splitter with a silica-on-silicon channel profile. This work aims to study the influence of the different S-Bend output waveguide shapes at the end of the MMI coupler on the final optical properties. The 1×128 MMI splitters have been simulated using beam propagation method in OptiBPM software. The optical properties of all considered splitters with different shapes of outputs waveguides are discussed and compared with each other. Based on the minimum insertion loss and non-uniformity, the final shape of output waveguides, ensuring the lowest losses, is determined.
When it comes to improving the health of the general population, mHealth technologies with self-monitoring and intervention components hold a lot of promise. We argue, however, that due to various factors such as access, targeting, personal resources or incentives, self-monitoring applications run the risk of increasing health inequalities, thereby creating a problem of social justice. We review empirical evidence for “intervention-generated” inequalities, present arguments that self-monitoring applications are still morally acceptable, and develop approaches to avoid the promotion of health inequalities through self-monitoring applications.

This chapter is about school suspension through a social work lens. Young people like Martin require the collective to belong, to be a member of a group, to realise their social needs. This is the basic requirement of human mental and social stability. Suspension stands in opposition because it legitimises social exclusion and disregards the linkage between the individual and collective (Bunge 2003). This chapter advocates for a whole systems approach to tackle social problems and develop sustainable interventions that facilitate young peoples’ needs realisation at school.
With Cloud Computing and multi-core CPUs parallel computing resources are becoming more and more affordable and commonly available. Parallel programming should as well be easily accessible for everyone. Unfortunately, existing frameworks and systems are powerful but often very complex to use for anyone who lacks the knowledge about underlying concepts. This paper introduces a software framework and execution environment whose objective is to provide a system which should be easily usable for everyone who could benefit from parallel computing. Some real-world examples are presented with an explanation of all the steps that are necessary for computing in a parallel and distributed manner.

The project IENE9 titled: “Developing a culturally competent and compassionate LGBT+ curriculum in health and social care education” aims to enable teacher/trainers of theory and practice to enhance their skills regarding LGBT+ issues and develop teaching tools to support the inclusion of LGBT+ issues within health and social care curricula. The newly culturally competent and compassionate LGBT+ curriculum will be delivered though a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) which is aimed at health and social care workers, professionals and learners across Europe and worldwide.
We have identified educational policies and guidelines at institutions teaching in health and social care, taken into account for developing the learning/teaching resources. The MOOC will be an innovative training model based on the Papadopoulos (2014) model for “Culturally Competent Compassion”. The module provides a logical and easy to follow structure based on its four constructs 'Culturally Aware and Compassionate Learning', 'Culturally Knowledgeable and Compassionate Learning', 'Culturally Sensitive and Compassionate Learning', 'Culturally Competent and Compassionate Learning'.
Specific training may result in better knowledge and skills of the health and social care workforce, which helps to reduce inequalities and communication with LGBT+ people, as well as diminishing the feelings of stigma or discrimination experienced.

Blood flow and ventilatory flow strongly influence the concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in exhaled breath. The physicochemical properties of a compound (e.g., water solubility) additionally determine if the concentration of the compound in breath reflects the alveolar concentration, the concentration in the upper airways, or a mixture of both. Mathematical modeling based on mass balance equations helps to understand how measured breath concentrations are related to their corresponding blood concentrations and physiological parameters, such as metabolic rates and endogenous production rates. In addition, the influence of inhaled compounds on their exhaled concentrations can be quantified and appropriate correction formulas can be derived. Isoprene and acetone, two endogenous VOCs with very different water solubility, have been modeled to explain the essential features of their behavior in breath. This chapter introduces the theory of physiological modeling of exhaled VOCs, with examples of isoprene and acetone.
We present a new concept of 3D polymer-based 1 × 4 beam splitter for wavelength splitting around 1550 nm. The beam splitter consists of IP-Dip polymer as a core and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) Sylgard 184 as a cladding. The splitter was designed and simulated with two different photonics tools and the results show high splitting ratio for single-mode and multi-mode operation with low losses. Based on the simulations, a 3D beam splitter was designed and realized using direct laser writing (DLW) process with adaptation to coupling to standard single-mode fiber. With respect to the technological limits, the multi-mode splitter having core of (4 × 4) μm 2 was designed and fabricated together with supporting stable mechanical construction. Splitting properties were investigated by intensity monitoring of splitter outputs using optical microscopy and near-field scanning optical microscopy. In the development phase, the optical performance of fabricated beam splitter was examined by splitting of short visible wavelengths using red light emitting diode. Finally, the splitting of 1550 nm laser light was studied in detail by near-field measurements and compared with the simulated results. The nearly single-mode operation was observed and the shape of propagating mode and mode field diameter was well recognized.

With the emergence of the recent Industry 4.0 movement, data integration is now also being driven along the production line, made possible primarily by the use of established concepts of intelligent supply chains, such as the digital avatars. Digital avatars – sometimes also called Digital Twins or more broadly Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) – are already successfully used in holistic systems for intelligent transport ecosystems, similar to the use of Big Data and artificial intelligence technologies interwoven with modern production and supply chains. The goal of this paper is to describe how data from interwoven, autonomous and intelligent supply chains can be integrated into the diverse data ecosystems of the Industry 4.0, influenced by a multitude of data exchange formats and varied data schemas. In this paper, we describe how a framework for supporting SMEs was established in the Lake Constance region and describe a demonstrator sprung from the framework. The demonstrator project’s goal is to exhibit and compare two different approaches towards optimisation of manufacturing lines. The first approach is based upon static optimisation of production demand, i.e. exact or heuristic algorithms are used to plan and optimise the assignment of orders to individual machines. In the second scenario, we use real-time situational awareness – implemented as digital avatar – to assign local intelligence to jobs and raw materials in order to compare the results to the traditional planning methods of scenario one. The results are generated using event-discrete simulation and are compared to common (heuristic) job scheduling algorithms.
Complementarities and synergies of quadruple helix innovation design in smart city development
(2020)
Increased urbanization trends are stimulating regional needs to support transitions from urban environments to smart cities, using its holistic perspective as a source to innovation. Strong relations between smart cities, urban and regional development, are getting increased attention both at policy and implementation level, providing fertile ground for execution of the new European policy frameworks that supports quadruple helix approaches to innovation. Smart specialization strategies (RIS3) encompass such initiatives, placing ICT and collaboration between academia, industry, government, and citizen at the center of urban innovation. However, there is still lack of research on effects of such approaches to innovation, involving both quadruple helix clusters and ICT in utilizing innovation potentials for developing smart cities. This study aims to increase the understanding on how quadruple helix urban innovation strengthens competitiveness of regions by improving its local smart areas – RIS3. We identified smart specialization patterns and applied comparative benchmark between nine smallmedium sized urban regions in Central Europe. Building on these results, the study provides an overview of the effects of RIS3 strategies implemented through quadruple helix innovation clusters on competitiveness of regions and Smart City development.
A modified matrix adaptation evolution strategy with restarts for constrained real-world problems
(2020)
In combination with successful constraint handling techniques, a Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy (MA-ES) variant (the εMAg-ES) turned out to be a competitive algorithm on the constrained optimization problems proposed for the CEC 2018 competition on constrained single objective real-parameter optimization. A subsequent analysis points to additional potential in terms of robustness and solution quality. The consideration of a restart scheme and adjustments in the constraint handling techniques put this into effect and simplify the configuration. The resulting BP-εMAg-ES algorithm is applied to the constrained problems proposed for the IEEE CEC 2020 competition on Real-World Single-Objective Constrained optimization. The novel MA-ES variant realizes improvements over the original εMAg-ES in terms of feasibility and effectiveness on many of the real-world benchmarks. The BP-εMAg-ES realizes a feasibility rate of 100% on 44 out of 57 real-world problems and improves the best-known solution in 5 cases.

Load shifting of resistive domestic hot water heaters has been done in Europe since the 1930s, primarily to ease the power supply during peak times. However, the pursued and already commenced energy transition in Europe changes the requirements for the underlying logic. In this more general context, demand side management is considered a viable approach to utilize the flexibility of thermal and electrochemical storage systems for buffering energy generated from renewables. In this work, an autonomous approach for demand side management of energy storage systems is developed, which is based on unidirectional communication of an incentive. This concept is then applied to the specific problem of resistive domestic hot water heaters.
The basic algorithms for an optimized operation are developed and evaluated based on simulation studies. The optimization problem considered, maps the search for the optimal heating schedule, while ensuring the temperature limits defined: Firstly, a maximum, which is defined by the hysteresis set point temperature; Secondly, during hot water draw offs, the outlet temperature should not fall below a set minimum. To establish this, the time series of hot water usage has to be predicted.
Depending on the complexity of the hot water heater model used, the formulation of the problem ranges from a linear to non-linear optimization with discontinuous constraints. The simulation studies presented, comprise a formulation as binary linear optimization problem, as well as a solution based on a heuristic direct method to solve the non-linear version. In contrast to the first linear approach, the latter takes stratification inside the tank into account. One-year simulations based on realistic hot water draw profiles are used to investigate the potentials with respect to load shift and energy efficiency improvements. Additional to assuming perfect prediction of user behavior, this work also considers the k-nearest neighbors algorithm to predict the time series. If compared to usual night-tariff switched operation, assuming perfect prediction shows 30 % savings on the electricity market when stratification is taken into account. The user prediction proposed leads to 16 % cost savings, while 6 % of the electric energy is conserved.
Based on the linear approach, a prototype is developed and used in a field test. A micro computer processes the sensor information for local data acquisition, receives electricity spot market prices up to 34 hours in advance, solves the optimization problem for this time horizon, and switches the power supply of the resistive heating element accordingly. Beside the temperature of the environment, the inlet and outlet temperatures, the temperature inside the tank is measured at five points, as well as the water volume flow rate and the electric power recorded. Two test runs of 18 days each, compare the night-tariff switched operation to the price-based optimization in a real-world environment. Results show a significant increase of 6 % in thermal efficiency during the operation based on the algorithm developed, which can be contributed to the optimization accounting for the usage expected.
To facilitate the technical and economic feasibility for retrofit-able implementations of the method proposed for autonomous demand side management, the sensors used must be kept to a minimum. A sufficiently accurate state estimation of the storage has to be achieved, to facilitate a useful model predictive control. Therefore, the last part of this work focuses on the aspect of automated system identification and state estimation of resistive domestic hot water heaters. To that end, real hot water usage profiles and schedules gathered in a field test are used in a lab setup, to collect data on the temperature distribution inside the tank during realistic operating conditions. Four different thermal models, common in literature, are considered for state estimation and system identification. Based on the data collected in the lab, they are evaluated with respect to robustness, computational costs, and estimation accuracy. Based on the observations made in the experiments, an extension of the one-node model by a single additional parameter is proposed. By this adaption, a linear temperature distribution in the lower part of the tank can be modeled during heating. The resulting model exhibits improved robustness and lower computational costs, when compared to the original model. At the same time, the average temperature in the storage tank is estimated nearly as accurate (6 % mean average percentage error) as in the case of the about 50 times more computationally expensive multi-layer model (4 % mean average percentage error).

Investigations on mechanical stability of laser machined optical fibre tips for medical application
(2019)
Light delivery is a challenging task, when it comes to medical applications. The light is guided through optical fibers from the light source towards the treatment region. In case of interstitial light application, the light has to be decoupled from the fibre and spread to the surrounding tissue. To reach larger tissue volumes, this can be either obtained by adding a scattering volume to the tip of the fibre, or by directly modifying the optical fibre itself in order to break the total reflection within the fibre core. Such modifications can be either on the fibre surface itself or internally in the fibre core. One approach to obtain the fibre structuring could be laser induced surface roughening using an ultrafast laser source. While using volume scattering as diffusor at the fibre tip is currently the gold standard for non-thermal applications (< 0.3W/cm), the decoupling of high power laser intensities for thermal treatment options is still challenging. Structuring the fibre core itself usually is related with a loss of mechanical stability. As fibre breakage and potential loss within the human body can have serious consequences, the mechanical stability is one of the quality criterion in diffuser manufacturing. Therefore, investigations about the mechanical stability of laser manufactured optical fibre diffusers are needed.
In order to evaluate the mechanical stability, a 4-point as well as a 2-point breaking test were developed. Different fibre diffusers, based on volume or surface scattering, were manufactured using fs-laser ablation techniques and its breaking strengths were investigated.
It could be shown that for surface fibre modifications, the mechanical stability reduces with increasing defect depth. The stability significantly drops when the laser ablation was performed in the thermal energy range. Volume scattering modified fibres only showed a slight reduction in stability compared to un-machined fibres.
In conclusion, internal fibre modification seems to be the most promising method to establish optical fibre diffusers, which are capable of several watts of emission power, while preserving its mechanical strength.
Production and tribological characterization of tailored laser-induced surface 3D microtextures
(2019)
In contrast to fossil energy sources, the supply by renewable energy sources likewind and photovoltaics can not be controlled. Therefore, flexibilities on the demandside of the electric power grid, like electro-chemical energy storage systems, are usedincreasingly to match electric supply and demand at all times. To control those flex-ibilities, we consider two algorithms that both lead to linear programming problems. These are solved autonomously on the demand side, i.e., by household computers. In the classic approach, an energy price signal is sent by the electric utility to thehouseholds, which, in turn, optimize the cost of consumption within their constraints.Instead of an energy price signal, we claim that an appropriate power signal that istracked in L1-norm as close as possible by the household has favorable character-istics. We argue that an interior point of the household’s feasibility region is neveran optimal price-based point but can result in a L1-norm optimal point. Thus, pricesignals can not parametrize the complete feasibility region which may not lead to anoptimal allocation of consumption. We compare the price and power tracking algorithms over a year on the base ofone-day optimizations regarding different information settings and using a large dataset of daily household load profiles. The computational task constitutes an embarrassingly parallel problem. To this end, the performance of the two parallel computation frameworks DEF [1] and Ray [2] are investigated. The Ray framework is used to run the Python applications locally on several cores. With the DEF frameworkwe execute our Python routines parallelly in a cloud. All in all, the results providean understanding of when which computation framework and autonomous algorithmwill outperform the other.

On the extension of digital ecosystems for SCM and customs with distributed ledger technologies
(2019)
Global supply chains represent the backbone of the modern manufacturing industry. Planning of global supply chains still represents a major hurdle, mainly because of the high complexity and unforeseen disruptions that have to be mastered for meeting the different logistics windows in a globally distributed production environment. Trust in supply chains is an additional challenge. A major – albeit sometimes overlooked - part of Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the management and integration of customs processes, clearing of tariffs, (re-)billing of customers, and fulfilling other legal requirements related to crossing borders, ranging from environmental standards over goods inspection to general paper work. With the exception of work offered by the World Customs Organization (WCO) the issue of customs and blockchain is still underrepresented in research and practice. In this paper, we look at innovations that drive the current ICTenabled SCM research and how these can be combined with smart customs management. After a literature review and introduction to the state-of-the-art, we list potential trust-based innovations for SCM and customs in digital business ecosystems. Based upon the innovations we also describe a requirements analysis of existing distributed ledger technologies (requirements for system layout, system configuration, system governance). A description of the prototype for the Lake Constance region – on which we are currently working – concludes the paper.

We present design and simulation of 16-channel, 100-GHz silicon nitride based AWG using BeamPROP simulation engine of RSoft photonic tool. The AWG was designed for TM-polarized light with central wavelength of 850 nm. The input design parameters were calculated applying AWG-Parameters tool. For this purpose, we created a ridge waveguide structure, used in the design of the AWG layout, and performed FEM simulation. The output of the BPM simulation of AWG structure are the transmission characteristics, which was used to calculate transmission parameters defining optical properties of simulated AWG. The achieved simulation results are in a good agreement with the design.

(2019)
This paper presents design and simulation of 8-channel, 100-GHz AWGs based on Si/SiO2/SiN/SiOx material platform. For the designs, two different waveguide structures were used, i.e. ridge and rib waveguides. AWGs were designed for central wavelength of 850 nm applying AWG-Parameters tool. The simulations were performed applying FEM and BPM methods in RSoft and PHASAR photonic tools. The simulation results show considerably lower losses but slightly higher channel crosstalk when applying rib waveguides.
We report resent results on the fabrication and characterization of carbon nanogap interdigitated electrode arrays (IDAs) for biosensor applications based on redox cycling. The electrochemical results of the carbon electrodes are compared to our fabricated gold electrodes with similar nanogap distances. The amplification factor and the collection efficiency were recorded by chronoamperometry. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was utilized to determine the oxidation and reduction potentials as well as for monitoring the electron transfer process. The different deposited carbon materials were characterized by Raman spectroscopy. At present, we successfully fabricated carbon nanogaps down to 80 nm and we are convinced to reach the present fabrication limit of about 30 nm (for gold and platinum electrodes) with carbon as electrode material as well. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first IDA nanogap sensor, which features a gap distance under 100 nm with amorphous carbon as electrode material. Moreover, we present a signal amplification of 32 for carbon electrodes by redox cycling, which is the highest reported amplification so far.
Comparison of silicon nitride based 1x8 Y-branch splitters applying different waveguide structures
(2019)
This paper presents design, simulation and optimization of 1x8 Y-branch power splitters based on Si/SiO2/SiN/SiOx material platform. For the designs, two different waveguide structures were used, i.e. ridge and rib waveguides. The splitters were designed for 850 nm spectral optical window and the simulations were performed applying FEM and BPM methods in RSoft photonic tool. The aim of this work was to find minimum physical dimensions of the designed splitters occupying minimal space on PIC chip. The optimization was done with regards to high symmetrical splitting ratio and low insertion loss. Finally, the optical properties of both splitters were studied and compared with each other.
Compact and high-resolution 256-channel silicon nitride based AWG-spectrometer for OCT on a chip
(2019)
We present design, simulation and technological verification of a compact 256-channel, 42-GHz silicon nitride based AWG-spectrometer. The spectrometer was designed for TM-polarized light with a central wavelength of 850 nm, applying “AWG-Parameters” tool. This design is based on a previous study of various AWG designs (8-channel, 100-GHz; 20-channel, 50-GHz; 40-channel, 50-GHz, 80-channel, 50-GHz and 160-channel, 50-GHz AWGs), which were all technologically verified. The spectrometer features small size and high resolution. It is integrated on OCT chip using standard CMOS processes. The SD-OCT system is developed to operate in a wavelength range from 800 nm to 900 nm, having 0.1 nm resolution.
Here we present the highly sensitive detection of dopamine using gold nanogap IDAs with redox-cycling amplification. Through the combination with a facile electrochemical activation and a chronoamperometric multistep protocol fouling of the gold electrode surface can be prevented and a sensitivity of 14 nA μM -1 with excellent linearity up to 10 μM is achieved. The low-cost and reproducible wafer level fabrication process of the nanogap IDAs plays a key role. Electrode and substrate materials can be nearly arbitrarily chosen. Also the gap sizes could be adjusted down to sub-100 nm dimensions with this versatile approach, allowing for very high signal amplification. In comparison to the current gold standard, fastscan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) with carbon fiber microelectrodes (CFMEs), which suffers from high background currents, no elaborate data processing and high-end electronic equipment is needed. Employing our flexible, easy and inexpensive method, DA monitoring with a short acquisition period and a detection limit less than 200 nM is successfully demonstrated.
Abstract: ams AG is a leading provider of sensing solutions developing semiconductor sensors in a wide variety of fields, with optical sensing as one of the key competences. Since integrated photonics is a promising technology for new sensor systems, ams AG has been developing processes for fully integrated CMOS-compatible photonic components based on Si3N4. This talk will provide an overview on the processing of basic photonic building blocks and their optical properties and performance. We will also give examples for applications in the fields of optical coherence tomography and opto-chemical gas sensing. In the 1980s photonics started its way for common use in telecommunication technology, using optical fiber technologies. In recent years, also a variety of photonic sensors has been proposed and developed. One of the major drawbacks of most of these photonic devices has been the lack of integration into existing (semiconductor) production processes, so far. This integration is feasible using SiN material systems to process monolithically integrated CMOS-compatible photonic sensors in the visible and near-infrared spectrum. We will present the basic processing steps for the SiN photonic technology, the development of some critical processing steps such as SiN deposition and SiN etching as well as several photonic components (waveguides, splitters, etc.) with their optical properties. One of the applications presented relates to optical coherence tomography (OCT), a fast growing imaging technique in ophthalmology. Drawbacks of existing OCT systems are their high costs as well as their bulkiness, which prevents a wider spread use of OCT systems.
One way to overcome both cost and size issues is to integrate optical and electrical components on a single chip.

Interstitial photodynamic therapy (iPDT) treats malignant brain cancer cells by irradiation with low power laser light. The light is guided into the human body by diffuse emitting fibers. This study targets the light distribution of optical diffusers within the brain tissue. It was shown, that by submerging an optical diffuser into human brain phantom, its radiation profile measured in air converges towards a Gaussian distribution with increasing phantom depth. A camera method using digital averaging filters as well as an integrating sphere setup, both, smoothing the diffuser radiation profile were applied onto the evaluated diffuser.
