- Green bonds are gaining increasing interest as a financing instrument for companies. The aim of this master thesis is to provide companies with recommendations for the design of the Green Bond Framework (GBF) and the bond conditions for the future issuance of green bonds. The theoretical approach to the concepts of green financing as well as green bonds provides the framework for the empirical investigation and gives indications on success factors for achieving a green premium (greenium). Subsequently, the GBFs as well as the features of the green bonds of ATX, DAX and SMI companies are evaluated by using content analysis. The analysis shows that the issuers set criteria of varying strictness for the management and use of the green bond proceeds in their GBFs. Based on these conditions which can be ordinally scaled, a quality index is developed that enables an easy compari-son of GBFs and, together with the success factors derived from the theoretical analysis, forms the foundation for a catalogue of criteria for the design of both, GBFs as well as the bond conditions of green bonds.
